Visiting a spa in Mexico for the first time raises perfectly normal questions. Here we answer the most common ones so your experience is smooth from the moment you walk through the door.
Tipping: the general rule
In Mexico the norm is to leave between 10% and 20% of the cost of the service. If the massage was excellent, 15–20% is what is expected. Ask whether the tip is already included in resort packages so you do not pay it twice.
Arrive early
Show up 15 to 20 minutes before your appointment. That gives you time to change, use the hydrotherapy circuit if it is included, and start your treatment relaxed rather than rushed.
Other points of etiquette
- Speak up about your preferences: massage pressure, areas to avoid, oil allergies. Your therapist will thank you.
- Silence your phone: the spa is a calm space, for you and for everyone else.
- Hydrate: drink water before and after, especially if there was sauna or steam.
- Book ahead: in high season the good time slots disappear fast.
